MR. HICKEY
Vernon “Chuck” Hickey, 82, of Brooksville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at the Maysville Regional Medical Center in Maysville, Kentucky. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary Lou (née Rudd) Hickey.
Chuck was born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky to his parents, the late Clarence Estel and Elsie Mae (née Kirby) Hickey on August 21, 1943. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country. He was then employed by the Monsanto Chemical Company as a shift supervisor until retirement. After retiring, he attended mortuary college and became a licensed funeral director. Years later, he became the owner and operator of All About Glass in Maysville. His most recent career role found him as a Court Security Officer for the Bracken County Sheriff’s Office. An active member of the community, Chuck held memberships in the St. James Men’s Club, the Bracken County Fish & Game Club, and the Bracken County Democratic Party. He was also a member of St. James Catholic Church in Brooksville. He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for the joy, kindness, and compassion he shared so freely.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind two sons, Robert Hickey (Katie) of Independence, Kentucky, and Michael Hickey of Florence, Kentucky; and his daughter, Meagan (née Hickey) Brannon (Charles) of Maysville, Kentucky. Also surviving are three brothers, Estel “Buster” E. Hickey, Gary P. Hickey (June), and Ronald G. Hickey; his sister, Sue (née Hickey) Campbell (Jim); six grandchildren, Vanessa Murano, Luke Hickey (Morgan), Clay Hickey, Ben Brannon, Emma Brannon, and Will Brannon; his great-grandchildren, Will, Jaxon, Jacob, Ezra, and Lilly; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Chuck especially loved being a grandfather. His grandchildren were a constant source of joy and pride, and he delighted in celebrating their accomplishments and spending time with them whenever he could.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Katie Hickey; and his brother, Wayne Hickey.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at St. James Catholic Church in Brooksville by Rev. Joseph Shelton.
St. James Cemetery will be his final resting place.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday at the church.

Serving as active pallbearers will be members of the Bracken County Sheriff's Office and Court Security Officers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Weber, Ron Thornbury, TJ Burton, and Dave Manzo.
