MR. GROVES

Mr. Russell E. Groves, 88, of Augusta, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at his residence.

 

Russell was born on September 28, 1934 in Augusta to his parents, the late Harlan and Irene (nee Gill) Groves. Prior to retirement, he worked as a machinist for the American Laundry Machinery Company in Cincinnati. As a hobby, he was an Amateur Ham Radio Operator. He was a member of the Flagg Springs Baptist Church in California, Kentucky.

 

He leaves behind six sons, Benjamin Groves (Julia), Russell Keith Groves (Emma), Harry Myers, Jr., Timothy Myers (Charlene Hope), James Myers, and Chuck Vinson (Sharon); two daughters, Joan Groves Thompson and Sheila Pychon (James); his sister, Wilma Appelman; 18 grandchildren; several great- and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean Groves and his second wife, Sharon Diane Groves; a great-grandson, Tyler Hafer; and his brother-in-law, Gene Appelman.

 

The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home in Augusta, Kentucky officiated by Bro. Kevin Richardson.

 

Interment will follow in the Sharon Cemetery in Bracken County.

 

Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
