MRS. POE

Mary Helen (nee Kelsch) Poe, 48, of Gilbert, Arizona (formerly of Augusta, Kentucky) passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019.  Mary was born on May 17, 1971 to the late George Joseph and Mary Helen (nee Bach) Kelsch and was raised in Augusta, Kentucky.  She attended Saint Augustine Elementary, Augusta High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northern Kentucky University with a degree in Secondary Education.  After teaching for several years in Kentucky, Mary moved to Arizona after marrying her husband, Terry, and taught at Mesa High School (Mesa, AZ) where she will be missed by both students and faculty.  Mary was passionate about education, and thoroughly enjoyed teaching History, especially World Civilization.  She loved to integrate her love of travel and visiting new places into her daily classes.  She most certainly made a long-lasting impact in the lives of countless students and as mentor to numerous educators.

Mary’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of many: most especially her loving husband, Terry Lynn Poe of 18 years, her siblings Vaughn (Beverly) Kelsch, Sarah Good, Carla (John) Behymer, Becky (Jeff) Cline, Tony (Dawn) Kelsch and David (Jennifer) Kelsch, her father-in-law Perry (Karin) Poe, mother-in-law Joyce P. Wilson, in-laws Phyllis Kelsch, Kelly Poe, Tammy Finn, and Diane Williams; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and nephews and countless friends, colleagues and students.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother Lee Kelsch.

Visitation will take place Sunday, December 15, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Saint Augustine Church, Augusta, Kentucky.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Ross Kelsch on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Saint Augustine Church with burial at Saint Augustine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the form of Masses at Saint Augustine, or donations to Mesa High School. For information on donations to Mesa High School for out of town family and friends, please contact Terry Poe or Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home in Augusta.
