DR. APPLEMAN
James E. Appleman, II, M.D., 74, of Augusta, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Margaret K. “Monni” Appleman.
He was born April 1, 1950 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to his parents, the late James E. and Elizabeth (née Reynolds) Appleman, I. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Having grown up in Augusta, Dr. Jim was a graduate of Augusta High School. He later attended Maysville Community College and after graduating, completed his medical training from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. During his time in family practice in Greenville, Ohio, he delivered around 2,000 babies. He also served previously as an emergency room physician. Outside of work, he served on the Wayne Healthcare Board of Trustees and taught continuing education classes. He was also a life member of the UK Alumni Association and was a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betsey Appleman and Edythe Flaugher.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are his sons, Joshua M. Appleman (Amanda), Nathan Appleman (Rachel); his step-son, Aaron Hunt (Kelsey); his daughters, Chelsea Percoco (Nick), Julienne Rostand, Caitlyn Sparks (Chris); and his step-daughter, Andrea McGriff (Mark). He also leaves behind his brother, Michael Appleman (Sandy); his sister, Susanne Thornsbury (Fred); thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brother-in-law, Billy "Stick" Flaugher; several nieces and nephews; many cherished friends and colleagues; and his beloved Standard Poodle, Bess.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at the convenience of the family.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested in the form of Mass Intentions, in care of St. Augustine Church, 215 E 4th Street 41002, or to the Kennedy’s Disease Association, 1445 Woodmont Lane NW #1805, Atlanta, Georgia 30318.
