Obituaries

Edy Flaugher

MRS. FLAUGHER

Edythe "Edy" Appleman Flaugher, 84, of Augusta, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the Hospice of Hope Care Center in Maysville, Kentucky.

Edy was born September 20, 1940 to the late James Edgar and Bess Appleman. Throughout her life she was a devout catholic and a member of St. Augustine Parish.

Edy had many different names/roles throughout her life.  To her two younger brothers, Mike and Jim, she was like a second mom to them when they were little and their mom got sick.  To her sister Susanne, she was a best friend and they were inseparable when raising their kids.  To her nieces and nephews, she was a favorite aunt.  Many people knew her as Ms. Edy when she was the librarian at St. Augustine School or as their favorite Avon lady, a job she loved and did for over 30 years.  But the titles she loved the most were mom, momo/mamaw, and wife.  She was married to the love of her life, Billy “Stick” Flaugher, for 64 years which was the accomplishment she was most proud of.

In addition to her husband, Edy is survived by her children, Brian Flaugher, Jim (Monica) Flaugher, and Lucia (Mark) Hughes; her grandchildren, Hayden (Marlee) Hughes, Anna (Adam) Duncan, Sophie (Nick) Roush, Will (Jayden) Flaugher, and Gabe Hughes; and her great-grandchildren, Arthur Duncan, Albert Duncan, Annie Hughes, Graham Hughes, and Eli Flaugher. Also surviving are her siblings, Susanne (Fred) Thornsbury, Jim (Monni) Appleman, and Mike (Sandy) Appleman; her sisters-in-law, Brenda Rigg, Barbara Edwards, JoAnn (Mike) Farrar, and Mary (Jim) Wilson; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her sister Betsy Appleman, who died at birth.

In her later years in life she enjoyed weekly card games with her siblings, monthly meetings with her Friends Forever Homemaker's Group, sitting on her front porch in beautiful Augusta, and cheering on the Cincinnati Reds with Brian and Stick.

Edy will be remembered by those who loved her for her sweet demeanor, wonderful, fun-loving personality, and the way she loved her people.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at St. Augustine Church in Augusta by Rev. Joseph Shelton.

Prior to the Mass, the Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM at the church. Visitation will follow from 10:00 AM to Noon.

Interment will follow in the Sharon Cemetery in Bracken County, Kentucky.

Following the interment, there will be a luncheon to celebrate Edy’s life at the Augusta Presbyterian Church Hall. Edy’s family would be honored if all family and friends joined them

Memorial donations may be made to St. Augustine Church, 215 E 4th Street, Augusta, Kentucky, 41002 or Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville, Kentucky 41056.
