MRS. STEELE

Betty Lou Steele, 84 of Dover, Kentucky, passed away surrounded by loving family on Saturday, August 9, 2025. She was a special lady to so many and loved to give to her community and those around her.

She was born on March 7, 1941 in Mason County, Kentucky. Her most prized love was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They always put a smile on her face. Betty Lou was a graduate of Augusta High School and attended Georgetown College. She lived in Georgetown, Kentucky for a short while before returning to her hometown of Dover, Kentucky with her devoted and loving husband, Jim Steele.

She was a member of the Dover Christian Church where she was pianist and a gifted vocalist. She was a member of Miss Ola’s Circle Women’s Church Group, member of Fernleaf Homemakers, serving as secretary for the group, member of Order of Eastern Star, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), assisting weekly at Meadowview Regional Hospital, and volunteered and worked food drives for the community. She volunteered in the past working by her husband’s side for Tri County Shrine Club and Dover Volunteer Fire Department. She loved working with numbers and used that talent for many of her clients, providing tax services and working with the crew at Banner Warehouse, as well as serving the community needs with her store, Top of the Line Specialty Apparel. But when the grandchildren came, it was her primary focus from the heart to be with them.

Betty was preceded in death by her late husband, Jim Steele, and her parents, Wilma and Clemo Tabb.

She leaves behind her daughter, Mary Beth Riggins; grandsons, Ian Riggins (Brittany) and Jacob Riggins (Samantha Kennard); great-grandchildren, Ashton, Adalyn, and Graham Riggins; a very special friend and family member, Janice Barnett Gifford; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends who are feeling her sudden loss.

The funeral service for Betty Lou will be at 4:00pm on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at the Dover Christian Church with Bro. Tony Liess officiating.

Interment will follow in the Rosemont Cemetery in Dover, Kentucky.

Visitation will be on Wednesday at the church from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Memorials are suggested to the Fernleaf Homemakers, P.O. Box 88, Washington, Kentucky 41096, or to the Dover Christian Church, P.O. Box 128, Dover, Kentucky 41034.
