DR. KLAENE

Dr. Thomas R. Klaene, DMD, 75, of Augusta, Kentucky, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 49 years, Cathy (neé Harvill) Klaene.

 

He was born in Covington, Kentucky on June 19, 1948 to his parents, the late Gilbert G. and Mary M. (neé Cleves) Klaene.

 

Tom was a graduate of Covington Latin School. He then enrolled in Xavier University. After his junior year, he transferred to the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and became the youngest graduate in the school’s history to receive a diploma and enter dental practice.

 

He served his country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Retiring at the rank of Captain, he served as the Chief Dental Officer for the United States Public Health Service. He was a member of St. Augustine Church in Augusta and was also a Kentucky Colonel. In his free time, he was an avid model railroading enthusiast.

 

Surviving Dr. Klaene are his son, Gary Lighthall and his daughter, Erin Hobson (Marc); his sisters, Jeanine Marschner (Dennis) and Janet Coleman (Don); his two grandchildren, Skyler  and Wyatt Hobson; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and many cousins.

 

Services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment following in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, Kentucky.

 

There will be no visitation.
