DOLORES McCANE

Dolores Kay McCane, 88, died on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at her home in Gertrude, Kentucky, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie McCane, who died on June 14, 2019.

 

She was born in Bracken County on December 15, 1937, to her parents, the late Herbert and Mildred (née Shofstall) Beyersdoerfer.

 

Dolores loved to garden and always had pretty flowers. She and Ronnie also enjoyed traveling to Florida as well as to various farm machinery shows. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a big part of her life, and she relished visiting them, even traveling to Georgia and Michigan to do so. In her professional life, she was a business office manager at the Soil Conservation Office in Brooksville, Kentucky. She also retired in the same position after 22 years from Augusta Health Care, now known as Perkins Country Manor. Dolores was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and former member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was also a Kentucky Colonel.

 

Survivors include two sons, Philip McCane of Foster, Kentucky and Chuck McCane (Jennifer) of Augusta; and her daughter, Sheila Moon (David) also of Augusta. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren, Joe Tackett (Emily) of Powder Springs, Georgia, Chevelle Bedra (Tim) of Flat Rock, Michigan, Kaitlyn Pence (Roger) of Lexington, Kentucky, Brianna Findley (Scott) of Madison, Maine, and Robert McCane of Augusta; and her six great-grandchildren, Amberly Pence, Cooper and Madison Bedra, Avery and Adelyn Tackett, and Benjamin Findley.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bobbie Hargett and brother-in-law, Billy McCane.

 

The funeral will be on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home with Bro. Michael Cannon officiating.

 

Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Bracken County, Kentucky.

 

Visitation will be on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
